I pace around the tiny cell like a caged animal, while my cell mate watches me quietly. We had been imprisoned at different times and being the newest prisoner I still have not accepted the fact that my freedom is gone. We have been in the same cell for nine days now and neither of us has said a word to the other. I had grown tired of staring at the damp walls of the cell quickly and figure that pacing is better than sitting waiting for whatever is in store for us.
I freeze when I hear voices come down the hall and stop in front of our cell door. Keys jangle as the guard turns a key in the lock. I tense, waiting to attack the people outside the door. It suddenly bursts open. I rush forward but am easily knocked aside. The boy doesn’t move as soldiers come in and hold him. He looks strong enough to kill them but he holds back. The soldier that is pinning me to the ground smiles evilly.
“I like me a pretty girl, even if she is a prisoner,” he whispers with a suggestive smile.
I bar my teeth at him and am about to strike when someone drags him off of me. A hand reaches down in front of my face, and after a few moments I take the proffered hand.
I stand only to find myself face to face with my least favorite person in the world, the leader of the Night Elves. I glare at him while a commotion erupts behind me. A hand grabs my shoulder and everything goes dark.
I open my eyes to find that some time had passed, and that I am lying in a clearing surrounded by trees. I sit up quickly tense and confused.
“So you are awake.”

I watch the girl pace the tiny cell like a caged animal quietly. She has been in my cell for only nine days while I have been in here staring at the same four damp walls for almost three months. I have said nothing to her and she has said nothing to me.
I hear voices come down the hall and she freezes. As the guard turns the key in the lock she tenses, waiting, as though she is going to attack. The door bursts open and she rushes forward. She is easily knocked aside which leads me to believe that she is light. I don’t move as the soldiers come in and hold me. I resist attacking them until the time is right.
The soldier pinning her smiles suggestively and whispers something to her. She bars her teeth and looks like she is about to strike. The leader of the Night Elves walks in. Maybe our time has come, maybe it hasn’t. He drags the soldier off of the girl and offers her his hand. She hesitates for a few moments then reaches up and takes it. He pulls her up, and she goes rigid.
I sense the time is right and quickly take out soldier that holds me back, as well as the majority of the guards in the room. I grab the girl’s shoulder and open a rift behind me. As I step through the rift the leader of the Night Elves moves forward quickly but I close off the rift. I catch her as she loses consciousness; the rift is draining her instead of me.
As soon as we are far enough away from the Night Elf encampment I open up the rift again and step into a clearing in the middle of the woods. I lay her down in the clearing and berate myself for forgetting that if I am holding on to someone and open a rift the rift will drain the one I am holding onto. I turn and walk out of the clearing to gather firewood as the sun begins to set.
A couple of hours later I come back with wood and a deer. She has sat up and is looking around. She doesn’t sense me behind her.
“So you are awake,” I say before I can stop myself.
